LGBTQIA+ Group

Are you an adult aged 18 years or older who has Aspergers, is autistic, or who has another similar neurodivergent profile?
Are you a member of the LGBTQIA+ community?

Are you looking for a group of peers who share your experience who you can meet, chat to, exchange stories, advice, and experiences, and connect with?

If you answered "Yes" to all of these, we would love to see you at our new LGBTQIA+ peer support group!

Who is this group for?

Our LGBTQIA+ Group is for individuals aged 18 and older who are peers of the autistic community AND the LGBTQIA+ community.

We welcome adults at all stages of the diagnostic journey, including those who self-identify.

As this is a parent/carer-free zone, we invite any parents or carers to join our separate Parents & Carers Group.

When does this group meet?

Our LGBTQIA+ peer support group is launching in November 2022.

Our co-design committee are meeting in October to discuss the details of the group, including the group name and to decide on a day and time for regular peer support group meetings.  The meeting format is likely to be online, however this has not yet been confirmed.

How can I register for the next group meeting?

To make sure we contact you when the details of the first group meeting are finalised, please add your name to our AV mailing list.

Visit the Join our AV Mailing List page, enter your first name and your email address, tick "Peer Support Groups - LGBTQIA+" as an area of interest, as well as any other topics you're interested in, and we'll include you in future emails.

If you would like more information, please email our AV admin team.

    Coaching Program

    Participant Application

After a successful pilot program offering complimentary coaching to our community during COVID lockdown periods in 2020 and 2021, AV is excited to announce that applications are now open for our fee-for-service coaching program.

    • If you are ready to apply for a space in our coaching program, please click the Register button and complete the application form.

    • If you are looking for general information about the coaching program, if you have questions about the coaching program, if you are interested in coaching but are not yet ready to apply, or if you are a parent / carer / support worker of a potential applicant, please visit the coaching page on the AV website and browse the resources we have available. We also invite you to add your name to the AV mailing list for coaching to be notified of upcoming coaching opportunities.

    Eligibility criteria

    • Coaching participants must be aged 18 or older.

    • We welcome applications from individuals with Aspergers, autistic individuals, and those with other similar neurodivergent profiles.

    • Application is open to members and non-members, however you will need to have a current AV membership to proceed with coaching beyond the initial discovery session.

    • The application must be completed by the person who will be participating in the coaching program
Note for parents, carers, and support workers: if you know someone who may be interested in coaching, you are welcome to share information about coaching with them, however we do ask that this application form is completed by the applicant themselves.

    What happens next?

When you have successfully completed and submitted your application form, you will receive a email confirming that you have completed the form successfully. Your name and your responses will be shared with our coaching team. When a coaching space becomes available, we will contact you to arrange a discovery session with you.

As we have received a lot of interest in this program, this may take some time, but we will do our best to contact you as soon as possible.

          About our Partners Group

Your partner may be self-diagnosed or have a formal diagnosis, and you may share a household or live separately. We are an inclusive group and welcome partners of all genders and relationship types.

This session is facilitated by our Partners Group Leaders. All AV volunteer group leaders are peers of their group participants and welcome new attendees.

Cost: $10 for members, $15 for non-members, FREE for +Groups membership holders and first-time attendees.

In the event that the activity is cancelled or transferred to an online meeting, we will only be able to let you know if you have registered.

NB: Unregistered attendees may incur an admin fee of up to $10. Please note that first-time attendee tickets must be requested before the meeting and are not available at the door.

            - Online Group Meeting

            About the Adults Group

Our Adults Group is for older members of the Aspergers autistic community and those with other similar neurodivergent profiles. It is more suitable for those who are aged 35 years and over, although younger adults are welcome to join in. (Young adults may prefer to attend our Young Adults group meetings as well as or instead of this group.)

As this is a parent/carer-free zone, we invite any parents or carers to join our separate Parents & Carers Group.

This meeting will be online via Zoom. We have included more information about Zoom and how to access the meeting below.

            About our Group Leaders

Cost: $5 for AV members, $10 for non-members. FREE for holders of a +Groups Membership and first-time attendees.
