Are you an adult aged 18 years or older who has Aspergers, is autistic, or who has another similar neurodivergent profile? Are you looking for a group of peers who share your experience who you can meet, chat to, exchange stories, advice, and experiences, and connect with? Then our Adults Group may be what you're looking for! Who is this group for? Our Adults Group is for older members of the AV community. It is more suitable for those aged 35 and older, however younger adults are most welcome to join in. We welcome adults at all stages of the diagnostic journey, including those who self-identify. As this is a parent/carer-free zone, we invite any parents or carers to join our separate Parents & Carers Group. Please note that our peer support groups are for peers only and attendees do need to be able to participate independently in the activity without support from a parent, carer, or support worker. When and where does this group meet? The Adults Group meets twice each month. The first meeting is held in person on the third Thursday of each month at a community centre in the Ashwood area in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The second meeting is held online via Zoom on the Tuesday following the above meeting. As AV peer support group meetings depend on the availability of our dedicated peer support group volunteers, we currently only offer the above format/s. If you are interested in volunteering to run an additional meeting for this peer group in your area, we would love to hear from you! For more information, please contact the Group Leader or our AV admin team, or send us your details via our online volunteer application form. What are group meetings like? Our Adults Group, facilitated by our Group Leader, takes the format of an informal discussion group. The Group Leader sets a general discussion topic each month for the group to chat about. We occasionally invite guest speakers to provide expert advice on particular topics. Past topics include the diagnosis journey, navigating the festive season, and managing clutter. You are welcome to join in the discussion or to listen to others as you feel comfortable. In Zoom meetings, you are welcome to have your video and microphone on or off as you feel comfortable, and you can also communicate via the Zoom chat function. How can I register for the next group meeting? The next group meeting is listed in the calendar below.
