Adults Hub: Online / Phone Social Night.
Topic: Multiple Diagnoses (Co-morbidities)
Our Adults Group is for older members of the Aspergers autistic community and those with other similar neurodiverse profiles. It is more suitable for those who are aged 35 years and over, although younger adults are welcome to join in. (Young adults may prefer to attend our Young Adults group meetings as well as or instead of this group.) This month we are meeting online via Zoom.
This month, we will discuss multiple diagnoses. Many people who receive a diagnosis of autism or Aspergers had a previous diagnosis of something else, or receive a diagnosis of something else at the same time or subsequently. It is not uncommon for example to receive a diagnosis of ADHD, OCD, an anxiety disorder, or others, in addition to autism or Aspergers. While there can be a significant overlap between diagnoses, the separate diagnoses may provide further insight and potentially suggest additional or alternative supports which may assist. We will talk about which diagnoses we have received, the benefits and disadvantages of these, and if time permits, any incorrect diagnoses anyone may have received before their autism or Aspergers diagnosis.
This session will be facilitated by the Group Leader, Colin. You can contact him via asadults@aspergersvic.org.au. All AV volunteer group leaders share the lived experience of their group participants and welcome new attendees. All AV group leaders have a Working with Children Check.
