Introducing the AV Job Seeker Network

Your Journey to Meaningful Employment Starts Here

We are proud to announce the launch of the AV Job Seeker Network, a visionary initiative designed to empower neurodivergent individuals with the knowledge, tools, and connections needed to navigate the job market successfully.

Our Goal: To create an inclusive space where individuals with autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent profiles can access tailored resources and guidance, supported by insights from our Employment Projects Manager, Jacob Alan, a neurodivergent professional, support worker, and leader of employment services at Aspergers Victoria (AV).

About the AV Job Seeker Network

The AV Job Seeker Network is designed to serve as a resource hub and supportive community for neurodiverse individuals seeking meaningful employment. We do not directly connect participants with job opportunities; instead, we provide access to open-source resources, expert advice, and a network of neurodiverse professionals, founders, and stakeholders who share a commitment to fostering inclusive workplaces.

Through this network, we aim to:

  • Equip neurodivergent job seekers with the tools to navigate employment independently and confidently.
  • Provide tailored information curated by Jacob Alan and informed by his lived experience in employment and support work.
  • Create a community space where neurodiverse individuals can learn from one another and from experts in employment and entrepreneurship.

Who Will Benefit from the AV Job Seeker Network?

This initiative is for:

  • Young Adults 18-35: Preparing to enter the workforce for the first time.
  • Career Transitioners: Those seeking to change industries or roles.
  • Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Individuals exploring self-employment and business ownership.
  • Professionals Supporting Neurodivergent Employment: Stakeholders, support workers, and inclusive employers looking to engage with neurodiverse talent.
  • Teenagers are welcomed if they are in need of employment support, however must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Self-Employment Support: Resources for exploring entrepreneurship and building a business aligned with your passions and strengths.

2. Expert-Led Insights

  • Learn directly from Jacob Alan, whose lived experience as a neurodivergent professional and support worker shapes every resource.
  • Learn from AV's expert stakeholders and friends, ensuring you have the best access to information, given through self understandings.
  • Benefit from practical strategies developed through Jacob’s work,  and leadership in AV’s employment services.

    November: Understanding Non-Literal Communication

This November, we’re thrilled to welcome Paul Micallef for an insightful discussion on non-literal communication and how it impacts social and professional interactions.

Paul is a leading autism advocate, educator, and content creator, best known for his YouTube channel, ‘Autism From The Inside’, which has over 200,000 subscribers and millions of views worldwide. His work focuses on breaking down complex autistic experiences into relatable, easy-to-understand insights, helping both neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals foster better communication and mutual understanding.

With a background in engineering and a late autism diagnosis, Paul brings a logical yet deeply personal perspective to the challenges of interpreting sarcasm, metaphors, implied meaning, and indirect communication. Through his workshops, speaking engagements, and online content, he has empowered thousands to navigate social cues, build confidence in conversations, and bridge the gap between different communication styles.

    This session will delve into:
Why non-literal language can be challenging – Understanding sarcasm, idioms, and indirect speech.
Practical strategies – How to decode hidden meanings and express yourself with clarity.
Bridging communication gaps – Insights for both neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals to improve mutual understanding.

Whether you struggle with interpreting tone and subtext, or want to enhance your ability to connect with diverse communicators, this session offers valuable tools and insights from one of the most influential voices in autism education today.

Zoom access will be provided to all participants upon completing their paid registration.
